please tell me about keeping the word limit in the long as well as short questions....also other than the list of books you gave ...do we need to follow any topic specific exhaustive lists like Thavaraj for financial administration, nicholas henry, stephen robbins etc...
will the books you have mentioned suffice...if so i would go by your words religiously

  14. hi shubhra......I have a very general doubt which many students have........

The books mentioned as standard texts for PUB AD (ex:mohit bhatta , sharma&sadana , prasad-2 , rajni goyal , etc, etc) , are to be read exhaustively ??

I mean these books have to be read from cover to cover or we have to do the job of extracting the topics relevant to UPSC-CSE ??

    THANKS....

  15. Hi Shubhra...
My cousin Naveen also got 28th rank this yr... he will be your batch mate though he opted for IPS.

I appeared in prelims this yr & I have just one more attempt left as I will be 30 next yr. I started my preparation last yr. My first optional is Pub Ad. I want to know as some of topics can be left while preparing for mains, which topics wud be safe to leave. Kindly post the full strategy for mains & pre.
    thanks!

  16. Well, word limit has to be followed in short answers. Trynot to exceed 225 230 as it can cut your time for other answers and gives a negative eimpression. You can write 900 word ans for 60 markers.

I left my job in sep 2006 to study as i had very less time for 2007 prelims.

Nic Henry and stephen robbins have to be studied only for prelims not for mains.

For CPA, I studied prasad and prasad, and one spl book on CPA. I dont remember the authors. For dev adm I studied from many sources as new areas hv been added.

Don't study books from cover to cover except for laxmikanth, arora goel and mohit bhattacharya.

    Keep IGNOU notes for reference.
Whenever you have some doubts or lack of clarity in a topic, you can consult them as they are too detailed and cover a lot of aspects of any topic.

You can get IGNOU notes online at egyankosh

Firstly, CONGRATULATIONS!! for the selection and wish you all the best for your trg. and work that you ll take up after that.I got to know about your blog recently.
I have some doubts pertaining to my pub ad prep.
    1) I have completed fadia & fadia for both ppr 1 & 2, supplemented ppr 2 by s r maheshwari and goyal. I had done some ignou notes also, though not all. So, i wanted to know is it necessary to solve all the questions in all the booklets of ignou notes, because in their personnel admin notes, the extent to which they have gotten into is tremendous, which i dnt think is in line with what is required for the exam preparation.

    2) As for the coaching, I completely agree with ur viewpoint on the quality of edn provided by these money making institutions. Personally, i have tried notes of sytnergy, vajiram, crackias and didnt find them good. However, offlately, I have heard about "braintree" making a mark as a pub ad coaching institute and was thinking of buying their notes..do u hve ny knowledge bou them?? (But for sure, this will b my last tyrst with these institutes, after this I am nt gng to waste ma time and energy on them)
