    Well you should rely on standard textbooks first of all. Then after that IIPA journals, IGNOU notes will be fine.

    I'm planning to go for IFS (Indian Foreign Services). Accordingly, I have planned to take coaching for Pub Ad and Economics in Delhi. I read from your blog, that u did not find any good coaching for Pub Ad. Though, i cannot depend on coaching institutes for my success I need one to guide me through.     Hello Everyone,

    I will be writing specifically for Pub Ad , GS and essay in a separate space. Kindly be patient.

    For Pub Ad coaching, I wouldn't want to recommend any coaching institute. You should rely more on self study. For Psychology, Mukul Pathak sir is a genius. If you have to attend classes anywhere then you should attend them with him. But if you feel that self study will suffice, then you can do that also.

    I won't be able to help out in the case of economics as i dont have any idea about that.

    Please bear with me. I will be giving detailed guideline on all aspects of this exam.

    I attended the classes of the gentleman in hurry in 2006 end.

    I will keep posting.

    I want to discuss with u, ur research & analysis on pub adm, essay & GS.

    Hi Shubra,

    I did feel the same for coaching institutes in Delhi . I came from Bangalore to Delhi for prep and was totally unsatisified with the facilites and faculty there .. for that matter even the book vendor !! Nyways but one advtg was easy acess to all materials which becomes a bit difficult in Bangalore .

    So now I hav started this concept of NAMMA IAS ..which stands to adress pblm of working people and those who cannot pay the bulky fees .

    1st of all my warm wishesh 4 ur success. it is giving me immense pleasure to have direct conversation with u. initially i searched for u on ORKUT, but i could not find you there. let it be.
    I am seeking for some guidance in choosing my optionals. i have done my B.E. (MECH-2008) from university of Pune n have recently joined TCS.     Hello, Shubhra didi.. I am going to appear in 2010 IAS exams.. 2010 will be my first attempt.. how much I should devote for pre and mains separately..My subjects are Geography and Philosophy.. I know u can help me out in GS and Essay very well..till now I have only superficial preparation completed.. Now these days I am concentrating substantially by making concept building from standard books.. Not relying on coaching notes.. one thing I want to ask.. whether I shud go for full notes prepared by me.. or synopsis by me.. or answer writing by me.. or by cramming coaching notes..I find synopsis and answer writing same question via different dimensions is sufficient.. what is ur say..     All,

    Plz wait for sm time for GS and PA tips.

    Flowery language is not required. Simple and straight language suffices.

    Do not prepare for prelims and mains separately. You need comprehensive knowledge to solve prelims questions too.

    do not select an optional by someone else's input. you need to evaluate which will suit you best.

    First finish the syllabus first . then in the 2nd or 3rd reading start making synopsis. that really helps. answer writing practice is a must.

    Hello Madam,

    In my previous attempts, i didnot score more than 254 in GS.

    My scoring in Optionals and essay are good.

    I think, i have problem of proper planning and approach for the GS mains.

    Therefore, in this direction, I believe, your direction will help me to improve upon.

    I missed to clear this year (CSE, 2008) narrowly because of GS and Interview marks.

    hi maa'm .first of congrtz for ur elite performance.i want to know dat is interview round is elimination round.

    i mean if someone underperform or performed so so,then marks will be given or not.if given then dat marks will be added or not,if added then dat person can be in merit list with total if he got enough marks in main written exam,then where interview stands if smone got scalable marks in written.

    interview is not an elimination round. even if you dont appear in the intw, you can get selected if your mains score is decent.

    yes..that's a problem with media. they depict things wrongly most of the times. In gact, one hindi newspaper said- "she watched child labour in coal mines and their exploitation, and that motivated her to become a civil servant".

    Now if that were the case, won't I have started preparing just after B.Tech.

    Dear Shubhra,

    congratulations on topping the UPSC exams. I know this may sound irrelevant but you seem to me as one of the best source of information.

    I am taking History as my 1st optional. I have a dilemma between German and Pub Ad as my second optional. I am sure there is hardly anyone taking German as optional and that makes it more difficult in finding books or even old question papers on German. My German is very fluent and my grammar is not bad as well. I have also worked as translator in English<->German, which is also a part of the mains exam.

    Do you have any suggestions/advice on this? Is it actually better to go for non-conventional optionals?

    I will highly appreciate any input from you.

    If you are comfortable with German, there is no reason why you shouldn't take it as an optional.
    Also, buy syllabus of UPSc and question papers of German to ascertain your confidence in taking German.
